| Back home in California, from wilderness beach in Baja. My Mexican fishermen friends really love KJD and Anno's music, (I threw a bunch of CDs in the car, Bob Marley, Grateful Dead, Greg Brown, Foggy Dew, Luka Bloom, and KJD/Anno.) We hooked the CD player to my car battery. I told them the story of KJD in short spanglish, they revered it. They called Anno Alexander or Alejandro with the utmost respect. They requested KJD regularly while cleaning fish. "Maggie, Alejandro por favor, bueno musica por trabajo." AAAHHHOOO! Was in a hotel in Ensendada when I realized it was Anno's birthday. My friend Pascual and I said Salud y gracias. Love to all |

| Entering the last measured day of 2008, this year was new beginnings somehow...
Hey, Anno, wishing you a happy new year. It's already eve in many of the places you've dwelled in those two decades, and will be here too in just an hour. Was reading a lot of your poems in WSTIO? from the year 2000 this morning and just read the last one in that part of the book, "the world is ending now-" and heard your heart reach into your throat, somehow sounding like you, but without age - "the seal is broken!" Hey, Alberto, a happy coming fraction of the earthlings' year to you too. I know so little about you, but listen out for what you carry in your soul as if echoes of it plays like a dance in slow motion and past the speed of light. I reread Bee's message in a blur of tears that had a beating too, and i send a stranger's love to your loving parents. Hey, Lee, gentle chaos causing the Landslide, such white darkness in the fullness you give to loving hearts. Sweet art is like embracing arms in those waiting, becoming. Your injecting drawings and music are so blue they burn the hottest of fire and brighten the stars we'll soon join the race among. Happy New Year!

| I am thinking especially of darling Isa and Mario this Christmas - who lost their only son seven years ago and for whom Christmas has been such a sad and difficult time ever since. I have other kids and grandchildren to fill the void. They don't. So dearest Isa, dearest Mario - I send you all my love - ever and always - and admire you so very much for your courage and fortitude. And thank you so much for all the love and care you shower on the rest of us. I hope the next year brings you some happiness - and brings you over to US for that promised visit!!!! | I have missed this place so much, and missed so much on this
place! I have lots of congratulatory and festive rantings too, and
certain emails I promised certain people.. Stupid lack of internets.
But it can wait another day or two. I hope everyone's well, and
having a lovely time right now. Especially little Emily-Jane. Another
proud Birkin! I'm not sure the world is ready for another!!

| Heard over christmas lunch today that there's a book at Sandhurst
about half a foot thick with all the officers names who died in the
second world war. At every service but especially Christmas before
anyone, even the priest can enter, a soldier must go in and turn the
first page.
KJD definitly deserve a page turned. xxx |
