| Latest unrest in Kenya means we have postponed workshops til September. However a coupls of us will be going there to set up a Saturday Arts club to tide them over - and keep the fire of enthusiasm burning -- as soon as it is safe to travel to Kenya (and visit the slums). We are also giving five scholarships from the money raised at the exhibition so that some of the kids who want to be teachers eventually, can enrol in a state school and do class 8 (not available at charity schools) This means they can get their school certificates and go on to further education - and qualify to teach.. This whole new future costs only £120 per child. The state school is technically free BUT they have to buy their own desk, uniform books and etc... One of these scholarships comes from Isa and Mario and will be called the "Alberto scholarship" and will go to a music student. We will name the others too after worthy people -- the art one after Lee - as he was such an artist himself. So if anyone has an idea for the other three let us know. |
