What an amazing show it was -- everyone touched by brilliance. So many thanks to all who made it such a night to remember. But not so many thanks to whatever malevolent god sent me an earful of tinnitus to lull me to sleep.... Fading slowly now - and actually it was worth it -- even though I have spent the day thinking there was an ambulance loomimg up fast on my inside lane.
Well done Ned and Gus and everyone who helped make it happen. Special thanks to Daffyd and Gareth and to George and the ambulance crew for rising and shining so spectacularly when the rest of the world was sleeping off the aftermath of this terrifc, fabulous night. And to HillBilly de Luxe the message that you were sorely missed and we all long to see your dear face again - SOON - on this side of the pond. xxxxxx

I don't come on the site much anymore but have poked around
recently after compling a list of songs for Ned to play on the KJD
night of bands that directly influenced KJD's music. I hope
everyone had a good time last night. I'm sorry I couldn't be
there but no matter how many times I pray, I never wake up to
find a suitcase full of cash at my doorstep.

After talking back and forth to Ned and Gus for a couple of
weeks, answering his questions about the new KJD CD and other
things, God has applied some defibrillator paddles to my heart.
I've still been working on music since the band left but it's a
little uncomfortable sometimes. I got a little help from Thom
Yorke and Sonic Youth whom have both recently released
albums that temporarily blinded me into seeing that I am, in
fact, still a musician. No amount of early morning alarms and
hammered thumbs can pound it out of me. When I listen to KJD
I have to force myself to remember that I really was a part of it
and that if I had done it then I can probably do it again.

I'd love to work on music at all hours of the day and when the
holy days Saturday and Sunday come around I do but the rest of
the week I am reduced to a jack hammering thug without even a
tape recorder to sample it. However, there are those 48 hours
when I become my own superhero. The new music that I am
working on would likely make fans of KJD throw bricks through
my windows. It's not in the same vein as KJD. It's not even in
the same circulatory system. There's still something in the way I
play the guitar that cannot be taken out of me but everything
else has changed. The lack of a drummer and other input from
anyone else has me making do with what I have.

To try and re-create my own KJD would be foolish and more
importantly, impossible. After Bee scolded me for keeping all
my music to myself I am a little embarrassed that I can only say
it is because I really don't have anything to play for anyone.
Drunken Cherry was the last song I finished. But I do have a
hard drive full of incomplete ideas that could conceivably
become an album one day. I can't pick up a guitar without
playing something that I can turn into a song so I tend to record
loops of new ideas every week. I suppose they will be useful
when I hit a musical drought but they're pretty useless right
now.

I will have Ned put up anything new that I do finish but don't
hold your breath.

To Peter - You are the only person who has ever heard the count
off in Killing Flies without me pointing it out to them. It's Anno.
That was because we had just made a change in the way the
song went into the final chorus. If you compare the timing of
the first couple of choruses and the last you'll hear it. You even
hear us fuck up the change a little.

Now I've gone on for far too long and I'll end up bumping
everything off the page and will in turn have my message
bumped off after a few replies. I shall try to come here more
often and answer any KJD related questions that I see posted.

We'll be posting up pix later - as well as Ned's amazing video of Landslide - so this is really just to thank Ned, Gus and all the bands for mounting such a truly memorable event - a fantastic tribute to KJD!

I find it so amazing and comforting to know that even in one's darkest times when numbness seems to override all feeling there is still rare music out there that evokes emotion and feeling again. Bring back the bomb, long live KJD! May tomorrow's tribute night remind people how powerful and promising music can be, as is potentially true of all individuals.
