I'm so sorry I missed the R4 play, is there anyway to get hold of it? I think I've just missed the 7 day replay. Gutted. I've been a visitor of this site since that telegraph article many moons ago. I never fail to be overwhelmed by the warmth and love of all you lovely people. What an amazing place to come together. I give Anno's book & kjd cd to any and every kindred spirit I come across! Thank you, so much, for this site & for anno's spirit.

I just heard the end of the play and am trying to listen to it in its entirety. I lost my daughter 9 months ago in an accident and Andrew Birkin's words really spoke to me. Thanks for being brave enough to write about it.

There are more reactions to the R4 broadcast "The Lost Boys" on the BBC's own website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio4/F2766771?thread=3469619

I have just listened to the play via the R4 'listen again'facility. Beautiful. That's all. I'm moved beyond words. Maybe I'll send another message when I feel that I can say somrthing that will matter, but at the moment, just beautiful.

I agree with Ned. Anno was certainly a musician first and a "poet" almost by default.... "the word is music and it is the language of my ghost; it beats in one great pulse about my mind and fills this carcass with a kind of joy..." Anno was at the pinacle of that joy, when KjD were jamming together, the four of them - four as one, connected in the marrow bone. They were his absolute prioriy. His life. And the GOOD NEWS is that the radio play has promoted lots of renewed interest in the band - and sales of the CD!!! I should know as I am the designated poster and packager. So keep on listening - and ordering -- and also do persuade Billy that his solo "voice" is utterly beautiful and he owes it to the band to keep on singing, playing , composing...I think he is doing so - but he's being all too private about it. He must learn to share!

It's so good to hear that so many people loved the R4 show, and that it has brought so many to these sites. Please though, everyone, don't forget to listen to the music if you have the time and interest. Music was Anno's (and Lee and Alberto's) life - it's where he and they poured their heart and souls both instrumentally and lyrically. Before he died the only words of Anno's that he had ever 'released' to the public were the lyrics in his songs. That's not to say that his poetry isn't incredible, but Anno thought of himself as a musician first and foremost. Perhaps he was too shy, or modest, to ever call himself a 'poet' - which seems absurd seeing as his poems rank with some of the best I've ever read. But if you have the time and interest, do listen to the music too - I know it's what he would have wanted. Music was not just a medium for Anno to express his writings, it was a form of communication and a passion that trancended both the sung word, and the instrument itself. I beleive that Anno was more in love with music than anything else he ever came across in his life.

KJD was the final point in Anno's musical journey, the apex of what he (they) acheived, and an amazing insight into where they were going. I personally think he would have wanted KJD heard above all of his other material, (though I'm sure he wouldn't have minded his earlier stuff being listened to as well, particularly by those who find KJD too hardcore!). I beleive this because KJD was the point he was at when he died(literally - they recorded Killing Flies only a few hours before the crash), and in his opinion it was the greatest band he had ever been a part of.

It's not just because I'm Anno's brother that I think KJD is amazing - they are genuinly the best band that I (and hundreds of others) have ever heard. They may seem like normal heavy rock or metal at first to those who don't normally listen to such music, but if you allow your preconceptions to fall away and let the music take hold of you you'll find that it is symphonic, infinitely complex, powerful, epic, dark, beutiful, tragic, inspiring, and utterly, utterly brilliant. I have never to this day heard anything like KJD, and I listen to a lot of music.

When you listen to them, remember that it was a band that was only possible because of the phenominal cohesion and creativity of each of it's members. Anno stuck with Lee throughout his heroin addiction/cold turkey/relapse/cold turkey, etc, because Lee was such an intrinsic part of KJD. No matter how good any other bassist was, they could never have opened the doorway into darkness that Lee did for KJD (plus he was a hot shit musician!). Alberto, who's house they were staying at in Italy, was the only drummer for KJD - just listen to their music and you'll hear how phenominal he was, and how only his input could have made them sound the way they did. And of course Billy, who is still alive and well in LA, one of Anno's closest friends from their early teens, was also one of his closest musical connections, and is a supurb writer, singer, and guitarist in his own right. Billy wrote the lyrics for and sang on about 1/3 of KJD's songs, and without him, as with any of them, there would have been no band. You can download some of his latest material on the Bocephus Prime page.

Please don't forget that Alberto's parents, Isa and Mario, and his friends, are often on this site, as are Lee's friends and family. The remember page is as much a place for their memory as it is for Anno's.

Landslide was KJD's signature song, and Killing Flies was the strongest hint of where they were going. If you know anyone who might like their stuff please do pass on the website address. KJD's brilliance is (partly) why so much energy has been put into keeping their memories alive (certainly on my part), and is why we're doing the Bring Back The Bomb tribute night and are releasing a compilation album of KJD's best songs (see the KJD home page for more details).

The Review page has now been repaired, and is ready to absorb as many reviews as you can write - so do feel more than welcome if you listen to KJD, or any of Anno's other material, to post a comment.

Thanks for coming to the sites, I hope you enjoy all the photo's, poems, music and memories they have to offer.

I lost my son 4 years ago in a mindless accidnet, and I have found such comfort in your son Anno's thought that "To be and not to be is the answer". I sense that you know this to be true, and that is what gives you your strength, and now suddeny gives me mine. Thank you for sharing your story.
